Court gives green light to Norwegian state mass surveillance

Today, the Oslo District Court fully supported the Norwegian state in the case regarding the Norwegian Intelligence Service's mass surveillance, brought by the Tinius Trust and editor Tom Erik Thorsen.
– We took this case to court because it addresses a fundamental question: How far can the state go in monitoring our digital communication? With this ruling, we believe the state has been granted excessively broad powers, says Kjersti Løken Stavrum, CEO of the Tinius Trust.
The decision will be thoroughly reviewed, and an appeal will be considered.
– In the times we live in, it is particularly important to stand up for liberal values. This is a matter of principle with significant societal implications. We will, therefore, carefully evaluate our next steps, Stavrum adds.
– Our clients are naturally disappointed, but we must now carefully review the 67-page judgment together with them. Only then can we form a clear opinion on the detailed reasoning of the court, says lawyer Jon Wessel-Aas, who represents the Tinius Trust.
